Rob Walter is the New Zealand men’s coach for all forms.

Rob Walter, a former white-ball coach for South Africa. He has been announced as the next head coach of the next Zealand men’s team for the next three years in all formats.

Even though Walter, 49, had more than two years left on his contract with CSA. He was one of the top contenders after leaving his position with South Africa. In addition to winning the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Walter had guided South Africa to the 2023 ODI World Cup semifinals.

After leading the Otago Volts and Central Stags in domestic cricket in New Zealand. Walter had made Hawke’s Bay his home, and his family had remained in New Zealand. While he was coaching South Africa. He guided the Stags to wins in the Ford Trophy and the Plunket Shield in 2022–2023. In 2022, Walter led New Zealand A on a tour of India. He has also worked as an assistant coach in the IPL.

Although it was originally advertised that New Zealand Cricket will divide the head coaching responsibilities between white and red-ball cricket. Walter succeeds Gary Stead as the all-format head coach of New Zealand.

Walter will coach the Blackcaps for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the 2026 and 2028 T20 World Cups, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and the next WTC cycle.

Scott Weenink, chief executive of NZC, stated that Walter’s assumption of the position was appropriate in both timing and location.

According to Weenink, Rob is the best coach with an outstanding background.

He is the perfect contender to lead the Blackcaps because of his success in the home game for New Zealand and his recent successes with South Africa on the international scene.

In the middle of June, Walter will take over leadership in preparation for New Zealand’s July tour of Zimbabwe.
