Sri Lanka names Jayasuriya as team full-time head coach

The former batter for Sri Lanka, Sanath Jayasuriya, has been named the team’s full-time head coach. The Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee made the choice to give Jayasuriya a full-time position.

The agreement with Jayasuriya will be in force from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026. Prior to being designated the team’s interim head coach earlier this year. Jayasuriya was SLC’s cricket consultant.

Jayasuriya’s first task as acting head coach was to oversee the home white-ball series against India. While India emerged victorious in the Twenty20 Internationals, Sri Lanka performed admirably in the One-Day Internationals, winning the final two matches to secure the series and winning a bilateral series against India for the first time since 1997.

Additionally, the squad performed admirably in England. Despite losing the first two Tests, they bounced back to defeat the hosts at The Oval in the third Test.

Starting on October 13, Jayasuriya’s first task as the head coach full-time will be the home series against West Indies. There are three T20Is and three ODIs in the series.

Since then, Sri Lanka has performed better, winning a test match in England after ten years, a bilateral one-day international series against India, and a home test series victory of 2-0 against New Zealand.

Jayasuriya’s position with Sri Lanka Cricket will take effect on October 1 and last for 18 months, the announcement said on Monday.

After an amazing playing career in which he amassed over 21,000 international runs and claimed 440 wickets in all three forms of the game, Jayasuriya is taking on his first role as an international coach.

‘Exceptional’ series against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma hopes, doesn’t go ‘unnoticed’

The captain of India  Rohit Sharma also commends his field players, stating that a few key catches accelerated their pursuit of win in Kanpur.

The captain of India, Rohit Sharma, has praised his team for taking the chance to force a result in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur. When play was suspended for two days due to rain. Even though there were just 35 overs bowled in total over the first three days. India managed to defeat Bangladesh, the weather, and time to sweep the series 2-0, maintaining their lead atop the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

In the post-lunch session on day four, Rohit set the tone by hitting the first two balls he faced for sixes as India’s assault bowled Bangladesh out for 233. The other hitters agreed with this strategy as well, even though it may have either outcome.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma informed bcci.tv that the bowlers arrived at the celebration first. They secured the wickets we required, and once we were inside. We had to assume some risk in order to succeed. I was fine with the outcome even though I knew it might have gone other way. It takes courage to accept those judgments and go to play that way. Which is why Gautam Gambhir, the coach. The other players were also astounded. Everything appears good when everything falls into place.

When things don’t fall into place, that’s where things might shift quickly. Everyone would have immediately begun to criticize the choice we made and everything. But in this changing room, what matters is what we think. It was what was important, and for this game, that is the strategy we used.

It was a clear plan that we desire the result. How we can attain the result. Everyone began looking for solutions to that. It was, in my opinion, a remarkable series. It could pass unnoticed.

Tim Southee quits as captain of the New Zealand Test match

On Wednesday (October 2), New Zealand Cricket confirmed that Tim Southee had resigned as the Test captain of New Zealand, with Tom Latham taking on the position on a full-time basis. Only a few days have passed since New Zealand’s 2-0 defeat in the Test series in Sri Lanka. The forthcoming Test series against India will be Latham’s first task as full-time captain.

Since making his debut for the team in 2008, Southee, the leading pacer for New Zealand, has participated in 102 Test matches and taken 382 wickets. After replacing Kane Williamson as captain in December 2022. He captained the team through 14 Test matches, going 6–1 with wins, 6–0 with losses, and 2–0 with draws.

Following his decision to resign, Southee stated that it was made with the team’s best interests in mind. “Captaining the BLACKCAPS in a format that’s so special to me, has been an absolute honour and a privilege,” he stated. “I’ve always tried to put the team first throughout my career and I believe this decision is the best for the squad.

Tim Southee

I think that going forward, I can best support the team by concentrating on my on-field performances and returning to my peak in order to keep picking up wickets and assisting New Zealand in winning Test matches. I will support my colleagues like I always do, especially the young bowlers who are making waves on the international scene. As he has done for me over the years, I wish Tom all the best in the role and he knows that I’ll be there to assist him along the way, Southee said.

Giving up something you love is never easy. But Tim is a real team player and he made the decision with the good of the team in mind. Stead stated, “He’s one of our best players ever, and we still see him contributing to our Test side going forward.”

Sixth place in the WTC rankings presently belongs to New Zealand, the victors of the inaugural World Test Championship. India, who are currently atop the standings, will be the opponent in three Test matches that they will play at Bengaluru (October 16–20), Pune (October 24-28), and Mumbai (November 1-5).

Proud Irish visitors celebrate a historic victory

Greetings from Ireland. Dublin, the home base of Cricket Ireland, is 7,520 kilometers away from Abu Dhabi, the site of their men’s team’s T20I matches against South Africa on Friday and Sunday. The farthest distance you could go and still remain in Ireland is 644 kilometers. Which would take you from the northernmost point, Malin Head in County Donegal, to the southernmost point, Mizen Head in County Cork.

Of course, Abu Dhabi was a long way from home, especially for Ireland. However, they were the official home team. Why? due to the fact that they must rent venues from clubs. When they play in Ireland because they lack a permanent home there. As a result and this is strange. They spend less money traveling to a very different region to play more than eleven times the length of their nation. The strangest part of it all was that, in the two weeks prior to Friday. South Africa had played three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Afghanistan at Sharjah. Which is located around 165 kilometers northeast along the Persian Gulf coast.

Abu Dhabi

At a news conference on Thursday, Paul Stirling said that the South African players were able to cope with the heat on the field. While the Irish players were using saunas and steam rooms to prepare for the 20 degrees Celsius difference between Dublin and Abu Dhabi.

It was clear on Friday as the Irish bowlers found it difficult to grip and control the ball due to their own perspiration. That came after Ireland’s batsmen were trapped by South Africa. After ten overs, they were 85/3, and after twenty overs, they were 171/8. Patrick Kruger, with his knowledge and skill, took 4-27. They therefore lost five wickets and only managed to score one more run in the second half of their innings than in the first.

Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks shared an opening partnership of 136 off 79 balls. Which was a major factor in South Africa’s easy victory of eight wickets with 14 balls remaining. After 18 innings in the format, Rickelton’s 48-ball 76 was his first half-century for his country. After 17 trips to the crease, Hendricks’ 51 off 33 was his maiden fifty with the white ball.

Irish

It appeared that Ireland had figured out their hitting lesson. While they were smashing 137 off 79, Ireland’s second-biggest T20I opening stand, Stirling and Ross Adair seemed to have done so, at least. It appeared as though the South Africans had regressed. Adair was 20 years old when Lizaad Williams caught him off guard with what ended up being a no-ball. Adair had reached 78 not out after eight overs when Williams, off Wiaan Mulder’s bowling. Shoveled what should have been a catch over the backward point boundary for six.

Adair made it through four more near misses (three catches went to fielders, and if the throw had been on target, he would have been run out) and finished with 100 off 58, the third century by an Irishman in the format. Not bad for someone who was brought into the team when Andrew Balbirnie was benched. He only got the chance because Lorcan Tucker, who was supposed to start, was sidelined due to a training-related injury.

The second ball Aiden Markram encountered, from White, he blasted for six over long-on. But after just four more overs, he was bowled while attempting a reverse sweep of Humphries. After that, South Africa needed more than ten runs per over at 130/4.

As of right moment, it’s said to happen near the end of November and might take place in a Gulf city. The auction is expected to be much anticipated in Saudi Arabia as well. If the GC gives its approval, it might possibly take place in Riyadh.

There is a great deal of conjecture about the retentions; estimates range from two to eight. The BCCI may decide to go with the RTM option and settle at a figure between 5 and 6.

In order to hear their opinions on a number of league-related issues, including retentions. The BCCI met with the owners of IPL teams at the end of July.

Dwayne Bravo, whose injury ended his CPL 2024, has announced his retirement from all cricket-related activities. He is the all-time top wicket-taker in T20 history. Bravo retired from the IPL last year. Bravo posted on Instagram on Thursday (September 26) to announce his retirement. “21 years as a professional cricketer – it’s been an incredible journey, filled with many highs and a few lows,” Bravo wrote. The main reason I was able to fulfill my dream was that I gave you my all at every turn. Even though I really want to keep our relationship going, it’s time to accept reality.

“My body can no longer withstand the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain, but my mind wants to keep going. I can’t put myself in a situation where I could disappoint my supporters, my teammates, or the teams I play for.

Thus, I humbly declare my official resignation from the sport. The Champion says goodbye for now.

The legendary West Indian cricket player had already left the national team in 2021 and had since dabbled in coaching in addition to working as a freelancer in the T20 leagues. Before helping St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots win their first CPL championship in 2021. He led Trinbago Knight Riders to back-to-back triumphs in 2017 and 2018. This makes three of his five CPL victories with the team. India looks to extend its record home run streak, and Green Park faces a viability test.

In the Green Park Stadium meeting room on Thursday, Shakib Al Hasan was the center of attention for twenty-six minutes. To finish his Test career, the experienced Bangladesh all-rounder casually revealed details of his chat with the selectors and the board chairman. The most decorated cricketer in the nation wants to host a farewell party in Mirpur, but given the current political climate, it might not go as planned. That means that the Kanpur Test, which begins on Friday, might be his last.

Another left-arm spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, would be waiting to play his first international match at home in his seven-year career. While it is unclear whether Shakib will end his Test career at Green Park.

They would both need to hope that the state association has put in place enough precautions against the forecast rains over the next three days in order to anticipate a spectacular event, whether it be a welcome or farewell, on the anticipated spin-friendly track of Green Park.

Green Park

Green Park, the location of numerous important Indian cricket matches, has the appearance of a typical 1990s Indian stadium without losing any of its attractiveness. There were practice nets that were practically touching the boundary ropes. A stand whose ability to accommodate large crowds was questioned. Floodlights that revealed the date of the last Test match between India and the host nation.

The venue director has responded to the allegations by saying that everything is set up for the ground to host the second Test matchup between Bangladesh and the United States. With record crowds expected and all required clearances in place.

Even the hosts, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, are aware of the venue’s shortcomings. They have recently chosen to hold the state’s more prestigious matches at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. Which among its many contemporary upgrades also has an excellent drainage system.

Seven years before, in a Duleep Trophy match in Kanpur, an eight-minute drizzle had left the field unplayable all day. The venue director at Green Park, however, is certain that with the nearly full ground covered in tarpaulin sheets. Two super-soppers, and a self-certified statement of the quality of the drainage system. They are ready to face the challenge of the frequent drizzles that are expected over the next four days.

“Superhuman” Rishabh Pant worked a miracle when he got back: Akram Wasim

In the most recent India vs. Bangladesh first Test in Chennai, Rishabh Pant achieved a spectacular comeback to Test cricket. After 632 days away from the longest format, Pant made his debut for India. He scored a brilliant 109 in the second innings to lead the hosts to a commanding 280-run victory. Pakistani legend Wasim Akram praised Pant for his perseverance and tenacity as the 26-year-old made a triumphant comeback to the Test game following his terrifying vehicle tragedy in 2022. When word of Pant’s accident spread, Akram claimed that many in Pakistan and India were concerned. But upon his return, he made a remarkable comeback in the conventional format.

On Sportskeeda, Akram remarked, “Look at Pant’s performance, the miracle that he has performed by proving he is superhuman by returning from his tragedy.” We were all concerned about him in Pakistan. After the manner his accident transpired, and I tweeted about him out of concern.

Akram Wasim

Akram, who was already in awe of Pant’s stroke play, remembered how the keeper-batter used to hit the bowlers prior to his mishap. But, Pant’s recovery from his injury was extremely remarkable for Pakistan.

The way he performed in Australia with the century back then. The way he used to play in Test cricket, remarked Akram. “The manner he batted against England, even outstripping [Pat] Cummins with a reverse sweep against [James] Anderson in a Test match. He is unique.

Particularly considering what he endured during that horrifying event and how resilient his mind had to be to recover from it. Especially after what he went experienced in that terrible event and how resilient his mind had to be to recover from it.

According to Akram, the tale of Pant’s renaissance is one that will inspire future generations to overcome every challenge. I think that’s a story that should be recounted to inspire young people everywhere for many generations. Akram answered, ‘You can return the way Pant did.

Akram declared, “He’s a miracle kid.” He returned and averaged 40 in the IPL, scoring 446 runs at a strike rate of 155.

Sri Lanka leads 1-0 thanks to a spin from Prabath Jayasuriya.

In just twenty-two balls, Sri Lanka completed the first Test match against New Zealand in Galle on Monday morning. Securing a 1-0 series lead. After taking the final two wickets of New Zealand’s innings to dismiss them for 211. Prabath Jayasuriya completed a fifer that enabled the hosts to win by 63 runs.

The game was evenly poised with two wickets remaining, and on a surface that was starting to collapse. New Zealand needed to win by 68 runs. The visitors were still hopeful, though, because Rachin Ravindra had performed admirably in the given circumstances on the penultimate day and was unbeaten at stumps on 91.

Regretfully, Prabath Jayasuriya’s delivery, which pitched on legstump and straightened, trapped the southpaw on the back leg in the second over of the morning, thereby putting an end to it. He was beyond saving by even a review.

A few balls later, the spinner almost had William O’Rourke, but this time, the review wasn’t in Sri Lanka’s favor. Still, the opposition was only going to continue temporarily. After two overs, O’Rourke was leaned up by Prabath Jayasuriya. Who had broken his outside edge.

Regarding the WTC, this outcome maintains Sri Lanka’s outside prospects of qualifying for the championship match. However, it makes their mission much more difficult for New Zealand, given they have an away series against India and an upcoming home series against England in the upcoming months.

Summary:

Sri Lanka 305 & 309 (Ajaz Patel 6/90; Diputh Karunaratne 83) defeated New Zealand 340 & 211 (Rachin Ravindra 92; Prabath Jayasuriya 5/68, Ramesh Mendis 3-83) by 63 runs.

Australia’s captain Mitchell Starc is excited to compete in the forthcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy against India’s legendary player Virat Kohli. In their 19 innings together, Kohli and Starc have faced off, and in the Test format, the Indian has been extremely dominant against the left-arm bowler. Against Starc’s blistering pace, the seasoned Indian hitter has scored 291 runs at an average of 59.00. However, Starc has only got four opportunities to show Kohli how to get to the pavilion. Even though Kohli defeated him in their head-to-head match. Starc admitted that he still enjoys his confrontations with the Indian ahead of the next Big Game T20.

Virat Kohli and I have played a lot of cricket against one another, which is why I like our battles. I always have some exciting fights. It’s usually a fantastic match and one we both enjoy. As I’ve managed to get him out a couple of times and he’s undoubtedly scored a fair number runs against me, Starc told Star Sports.

Virat Kohli & Mitchell Starc

There will be other thrilling matches on the field than Kohli’s matchup with Starc in Australia.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell thinks the match between Steve Smith of Australia and Virat Kohli of India will be exciting to watch.

The manner that Virat Kohli and Steve Smith, two incredible hitters, go head-to-head, I believe has a lot to do with how their dominance is established throughout the series and how much of an impact it has on who wins the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Maxwell recently told Star Sports that it will be interesting to see the two best players of our generation go head-to-head. One of them is going to make a lot of runs, if not both of them.

On November 22, Australia and India will play their first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar series in Perth.
